Description
Her name is Lena Schilling, she's 23 years old and she's the head of the Austrian Greens' list for the 2024 European elections. Her presence is unusual in a campaign where the other heads of list are men over 50 with long political careers. A climate activist with Friday for Future, she has made a name for herself in her fight against plans to build a highway tunnel through the Lobau alluvial forest, a 2,300-hectare national park to the west of Vienna. ‘For me, it started with street demonstrations, petitions and work in Parliament. I think we can only be effective together, fighting side by side for the same things at different levels. It doesn't matter whether it's in the communes, schools, universities or elsewhere. That's what I'm taking away with me, and I hope to succeed’, she explains in an interview. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
