Description
In the city of Porto Alegre, 19-year-old Micael Quebim has set up a makeshift shelter on a pedestrian bridge after torrential rains caused flooding and forced him to evacuate his home. "I took shelter here because I don't think the water will ever get this high," he says. "We were forced to leave because everything had been washed away by the flood," adds Alexandro Ramos, another flood victim.
The worst natural disaster ever to hit the southern Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul has claimed at least 95 lives, with 372 people injured and 131 still missing, according to civil defense officials. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
