Description
At a conservancy three hours from the Kenyan capital Nairobi, veterinarian Simon Thomsett is sounding the alarm: Africa's birds of prey are disappearing. A recent study has found the raptor population has fallen by 90 percent over the last 40 years on the continent, and Thomsett warns the clock is ticking. "You can go down a road today for maybe 200km and not see a single raptor. If you did that 20 years ago, you would have seen 100. It’s that obvious a decline," he says. It's an uphill battle for conservationists, but there are glimmers of hope. "We can see a lot of change in attitude," says Juliet Waiyaki of the Naivasha Raptor Centre. "We do our part."
