In Istres, southern France, a number of cycle paths have recently been opened, with one thing in common: they are all partly funded by the European Union to the tune of 3.6 million euros, or 40% of the total cost of the project. "Without European funding, this would not have been possible. Or to a lesser extent," explains Eric Casado, the town's deputy mayor in charge of urban development.
