Description
South African authorities, rescue workers and anxious relatives say they retain hope that there will be survivors amongst or underneath the rubble of a collapsed building days after it came crashing down killing at least eight people. Dozens of people are still unaccounted for, more than 72 hours after rescue services started combing through the debris in the southern city of George. “I hope God will do something so that we find some of them alive," says Emanuelle Junior Simaka, who has three relatives, including his sister, amongst those unaccounted for. But others are less optimistic. "If somebody's in the basement or the lift shaft there is a small chance they may be alive, but the dogs are not picking anything up and holes have been dug around there," says Imtiaz Sooliman, from the Gift of the Givers disaster relief foundation.
