Description
EU governments from Poland to the Netherlands are scrambling to increase green energy production to meet new European output targets of 42 percent alternative energy by 2030. The Netherlands and Spain are betting big on solar, but Madrid faces hurdles with some of its hydro plants being forced to reduce output due to frequent droughts. Poland, like Germany, is heavily dependent on coal for electricity, but is investing heavily in wind power and is set to build the first wind farm in the Baltic Sea. "We believe that renewable energies will be able to replace coal in some time and we estimate that they will contribute a few tens of percent to the Polish energy mix," says Jerry Zan CEO of Polenergia.
