Description
Taiwan's Presidential Office Building is covered in decorations and singers practice their performances ahead of the inauguration of the island's new leader. Lai Ching-te is due to be sworn into office on Monday in a ceremony that will be closely watched by China and the United States.
China, which claims Taiwan as part of its territory, has branded Lai a "dangerous separatist" who will bring "war and decline" to the self-ruled island.
Eight heads of state are expected to be among the 51 international delegations attending Monday's ceremony, including the leaders of Paraguay and Palau. IMAGES
