Description
Lou’s Place in Sydney, Australia is the city's only daytime shelter where women can escape and seek support from domestic abuse. On busy days the small shelter hosts more than 40 women, Lou's Place general manager Amanda Greaney tells AFP. A survivor of childhood abuse herself, Greaney says violence against women is at “crisis proportions" in Australia. "We need to stop it."
As the country reckons with the issue, police in New South Wales announced Monday they had arrested more and charged 554 domestic violence suspects in a four-day operation. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
