Description
South Africans head to the polls on May 29 in what is expected to be one of the tightest and most consequential elections since 1994, when Nelson Mandela became president. Three decades on, with record unemployment and growing inequality, there is a sense of disillusionment among young voters who wonder if their ballot will make a difference. “As a young person, you'd feel disheartened by democracy because it almost feels as if it's failed us" says 21- year-old Luhlaleniso Jebe. “It almost feels as if voting doesn't lead to any significant change."
