From a transit zone, Africa's largest country, Algeria has become a consumer of illegal drugs -- with an increase of almost 38% in the number of drug users between 2021 and 2022, according to local media.
A rehabilitation centre 20 km west of the capital Algiers focuses on physical activity and psychological care as it aims to help users become clean.
"I came here of my own free will, with all my determination, to cure myself of my addiction," says a patient undergoing his fourth session.
