Description
Known as the “Saturday Mothers”, a group of activists commemorating the enforced disappearance of their loved ones in the 1980s and 1990s in Turkey, mark their 1000th vigil in Istanbul. Hanim Tosun has been trying for 29 years to find out the fate of her husband, Fehmi Tosun, who disappeared in 1995 in Istanbul in police custody. “The state should show us a tombstone where we can lay these carnations. We are gathering in this square so that no one suffers like we do,” she tells AFP. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
