Description
Only a few boards separate the Berrio family and their dozen farm animals from the putrid waters that has invaded their home. In Colombia's La Mojana region, constant flooding is causing a serious humanitarian crisis. The collapse of an artificial sand dam has left at least 32,000 people affected and thousands of hectares of agricultural crops destroyed by flooding, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. "Everything drowned. The few animals that are there are up (on the wooden boards, ed.), they are dying. This water is very infectious," says 47-year-old Rosiris Berrio, who lives with her partner and their two school-age children. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES ARRANGED IN SEQUENCES
