Description
Police officers patrol the western Mexican state of Michoacan, checking polling stations ahead of the June 2 general elections. According to official figures, at least 24 candidates have been killed during this particularly violent electoral process in this Latin American country. Some 27,000 soldiers and national guardsmen will be deployed to reinforce security during the elections, when the country is expected to elect its first woman president. IMAGES
