Eighty Iranians have registered their candidacy for the country's June 28 presidential elections, brought forward by the death of Ebrahim Raisi, but they will have to wait to see if their candidacy is okayed by Iran's Guardian Council, a 12-strong body of jurists dominated by conservatives that vets all candidates for public office. They include: former deputy foreign minister and nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili, former parliament speaker Ali Larijani, hardline former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the conservative speaker of Iran's parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, and Vahid Haghanian, a former commander in the Revolutionary Guards who is under US sanctions.
