Description
The first solar power plant in the Ivory Coast to enter the national grid is forming part of the West African nation's drive to embrace clean energy without abandoning fossil fuels. The plant, which opened in June 2023, is located in the northern town of Boundiali. Unlike the wetter, cloudier south, the climate in the north is hot and dry for much of the year, making it well suited to solar. "Irradiance is very high" in the region, plant engineer Franck Alain Yayo says referring to the intensity of the Sun's energy. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES ARRANGED IN SEQUENCES N°34VC3CQ
