"Today's citizens just don't want to comply because the world of tomorrow that is being presented to us doesn't suit us at all," says Thomas Brail of the National Tree Monitoring Group, as thousands of environmentalists defied a prefectoral ban to take part in the "Roue Libre" demonstration against the A-69 Castres-Toulouse motorway. The demonstration degenerated into clashes between hooded demonstrators and the police.
