Description
"This has to be a message of hope for all those people who today are still suffering some kind of abuse," says actress Thelma Fardin, after a Sao Paulo court sentenced Brazilian-Argentine actor Juan Darthes to six years in jail for raping her when she was still a minor.
Darthes, 59, was convicted in Brazil, where he was born and lives, of raping Fardin in 2009 in a hotel in Managua, Nicaragua, where he was with the then 16-year-old actress on a promotional tour for a hit TV series. The actor was 44 at the time, 28 years older than Fardin. She hadn't pressed charges until nine years later, at the end of 2018, encouraged by the momentum of the #MeToo movement in the US, particularly in the film industry with the multiple accusations against producer Harvey Weinstein.
