Description
"What is surprising is that, with a bit of wind, already very early in the season, we've got a fire that exceeds 600 hectares", explains Dominique Lain, President of the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (CASDIS) of Var, as the first major fire of the season broke out in southern France on Wednesday.
The wildfire started at around 3:00 pm in the town of Vidauban, in Saint-Tropez hinterland, an area historically hit by fires in the summer. Hundreds of firefighters have been deployed to contain the blaze. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
