At the Lycee Olivier Guichard, a vocational school in Guerande, on the west coast of France, students studying aquaculture and marine farming learn to dive. It is the only institution in France to combine their training with the practice of this activity, as part of the agricultural education sports section opened this year. More and more fish and shellfish farmers need a diving diploma to work on sea cages or mussel beds. It's a way of making these future professionals aware of the need to protect the marine environment and giving them an additional qualification at a time when recruitment to these professions is difficult.
