Description
When Iranians worry about life's big questions, many search for answers in the works and wisdoms of Persia's most revered poet, Hafez. Near his mausoleum in the southern city of Shiraz, Iranians seek the guidance of fortune-tellers who, sometimes with the help chirpy parakeets, offer advice using Hafez's collected works, a book of odes known as the Divan. "The ghazals of Hazrat Hafez are known for their ambiguity and multifaceted nature, allowing for diverse interpretations," explains one fortune-teller, "this complexity is why people are drawn to his work and seek guidance from it."
