Description
Gaza is a long way from the picturesque hills at the foot of the UK's Yorkshire Dales, but the issue could decide general election races in northern England, with many local Muslims angry at Labour's stance. While Labour is expected to win a thumping national majority on July 4, leader Keir Starmer's refusal to back an unconditional ceasefire in Gaza has caused a split with once-loyal Muslim supporters. "The Gaza issue has galvanised a lot of people who were either politically apathetic or politically asleep, but I think it's brought out a lot of hypocrisy from the two mainstream parties," says independent candidate Vasim Shabir.
