Under the pouring rain and overshadowed by war, a few hundred people gather in Kyiv for the Ukrainian capital's first Pride march since the Russian invasion, guarded by a heavy police presence. Shortly after participants dispersed after a brief rally that took place behind a police cordon, nationalist militants set off for a counter-demonstration through the streets of Kyiv, where they shouted homophobic slurs. "It's very important, it's very timely, no matter what anyone says. Especially now, when there is a war, and people are dying, especially LGBT soldiers. And we need equal rights, at least partnerships, so that people can come to the intensive care unit to say goodbye and bury their loved ones," says Pride participant Dina Ivanova.
