At 10,000 km from Gaza, Samar Alghoul, a Palestinian medical student in Cuba, has been living the war between Israel and Hamas from a distance for the past eight months, and is faced with a dilemma: to return home to be with her family, or to pursue her professional dream. She is one of 247 Palestinian students, including 75 from Gaza, learning medicine in Cuba on a government scholarship, according to figures provided to AFP by Palestinian ambassador Akram Samhan.
