Description
Firefighters from the city of Corumba battle one of thousands of wildfires this year in Brazil's Pantanal region, known as the world's largest tropical wetland, which is currently experiencing record fires for this time of year. Behind the smoke of a recently extinguished fire, Luis Francisco Bueno Alves says climate change is making the fires "worse."
In the first half of this year, satellites recorded more than 3,300 fires in the region slightly bigger than England, 33 percent more than in 2020. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
