Description
A pair of Jabiru storks, a symbol of Brazil's Pantanal region, are "safe and sound" in their nest after firefighters extinguished flames that burned down their home trees in the wetlands, where satellites recorded more than 3,400 fires in the first half of this year. For biologist Sergio Barreto, this is "only the beginning" of the fight to "preserve as many lives as possible" in the fauna, with fires already increasing by 33 percent more than in 2020.
