Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban announces his intention to form a new European parliamentary group with the far-right Austrian Freedom party, lead by Herbert Kickl and the centrist movement of former Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis. "A new era begins here", he says in front of the media. The new alliance, named "Patriots for Europe" and enshrined in a "manifesto", needs the support of parties from four other countries in order to be recognised as a fully-fledged group in the European Parliament.
