Description
Around 50 protesters gather outside a criminal court in Renens, Switzerland, where the appeal trial of six police officers accused of causing the death of Mike Ben Peter, a Nigerian national, has begun. Peter, 39, died in 2018 following a drug test in Lausanne. In June 2023, after a four-day trial, the Lausanne Criminal Court ruled that the six police officers involved in the check could not be convicted of negligent homicide, leading to outpourings of anger. "The investigation was flouted, witnesses were not heard and the prosecutor dropped his complaint before the end of the trial," says Djamila, who is leading the protest movement. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
