In an opinion piece published on Tuesday by the French daily Le Monde, a thousand historians call on people to vote against the National Rally. "The only time the far-right has governed in France was during the Second World War," points out Antoine Lilti, a historian specialising in the Enlightenment, who is behind the initiative, adding that "the very functioning of public debate is under threat".
