Description
On the penultimate day of campaigning in the UK’s general election, former Prime Minister Boris Johnson makes a surprise appearance for the first time in support of current Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. Sunak was a member of the group which helped remove Johnson from power following the ‘Partygate’ scandal in which he was found to have broken his own Covid lockdown rules, and until now in the campaign Johnson had only supported individual candidates via video messages. Speaking at the event in London, he says he came back to warn against a Labour Party “supermajority”, claiming that the party would use a large win to “make us nothing but the punk of Brussels… Taking EU law by dictation.” He also warned against voting for “other parties” who “turn out to be full of Kremlin crawlers who actually making excuses for Putin's 2022 invasion of Ukraine.” Seemingly a reference to Reform UK, Johnson said voting for them would in fact bring about a larger Labour majority.
