Description
There is "potential" for Hurricane Beryl to reach southern Texas, according to Matthew Rosencrans, lead hurricane season forecaster for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The powerful storm, which is churning toward Jamaica with dangerous winds and sea surge, has killed seven people and caused destruction in the Caribbean. Rosencrans predicts a hurricane season "above the normal values," with 17 to 25 main storms. SOUNDBITES
