Description
Amid blackouts and lack of supplies, the workers of a sugarcane cooperative in western Cuba are trying to keep their enterprise afloat. The Rigoberto Corcho Basic Cooperative Production Unit (UBPC) is one of many corperatives created 30 years ago to transform agricultural production on the island, which is facing another tough economic crisis. "It is the worst time in history and we are making the greatest sacrifice of all time to produce sugar," says the administrator Reinaldo Espinosa, in Artemisa province, 60 km southwest of Havana.
