In El Salvador's capital city, faithful Christians from the LGBTQ+ community are re-connecting with their faith through a local Anglican-inspired religious community, one of the few spaces open to LGBTQ+ believers. "We believe in the dignity that God has given to all people, including those with different sexual orientations," says Pastor Luis Chaves, a member of the Maria Magdalena religious community. For worshippers like Fiorella Turchkeim and her girlfriend, who had distanced themselves from the church due to what they describe as "spiritual violence" against LGBTQ people, meeting the Magdalena community "was like a message" to return to practice their faith in a "safe space."
