Description
Speaking at the European Parliament three days after the second round of legislative elections in France, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, leader of France Unbowed (La France Insoumise (LFI)), claims that "no-one has been called upon to form a government, or even called to say they would be called" within the New Popular Front (Nouveau Front Populaire (Left Alliance)). No party or coalition of parties achieved an absolute majority of 289 deputies in the new National Assembly on Sunday. Having come out on top in the early legislative elections, the New Popular Front won 190 to 195 seats, the presidential camp around 160 and the far right over 140. "Mr. Mélenchon added: "There is sign of any willingness to provide the beginnings of a response to the situation.” SOUNDBITES
