Description
For Turkish Cypriots living in the self-declared Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), the 1974 Turkish invasion of northern Cyprus is a reminder of the complex reality as the island marks a half-century of division in July. The unresolved conflict between Greek and Turkish Cypriots is branded on the landscape in a UN-patrolled buffer zone that cuts across the island. Some consider the events of 1974 a "rescue," while for others, they evoke "sadness". "I hope that there will be peace," says Turkish Cypriot Ozkay Ertayfur. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
