A year ago in the Santiago de Chile mountains, the La Parva ski center barely showed any traces of snow. But after an unusual cold front in the fall, this and other resorts have opened early thanks to the two meters of snow now covering the mountains. "Last year's season started on July 5, while this season began on May 31.
