Description
Unfurling a banner from a bridge over the wild Shushica river in southern Albania, Sotir Zaho Aliaj is among the locals protesting against government plans to divert a portion of its flow to a coastal tourist resort. "It will dry up completely," he says, explaining that climate change has already "affected the river's flow". The state's plan, if completed, would see a 17-kilometre pipe installed to take water from the Shushica to the coast, where a tourism-led construction boom is underway. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
