Description
The largest glacier in the Italian Alps is continuing to shrink year on year. Despite the increase in snow coverage in spring 2024, significantly shortening the melting season, the Adamello Glacier is threatened by rising global temperatures as well as deposits of sand from the Sahara Desert reaching the ice and absorbing more heat. "When there is a darker surface with less ability to reflect sunlight, as is happening now," explains Enrico Valcanover from the Trentino region's glacier commission, "it accelerates the snow's melting process."
