Description
A senior police officer in Southport, UK, says she is "horrified and disgusted by the level of violence" that took place on Tuesday night when people believed to be supporters of the far-right English Defence League (EDL) rioted, throwing bricks at police and a local mosque. The police now say 53 of their officers were injured. Mayor of the Liverpool City Region Steve Rotheram blames "fakes news and false narratives" after online speculation about the identify of an attacker who killed three young girls in Southport on Monday. Meanwhile, community members have been fixing the damage caused by rioters. Bricklayer Tony Hill is among them, rebuilding a wall outside Southport Mosque that was torn down for use as projectiles.
