Panama's border police carry out an operation to dismantle a criminal organization that smuggles migrants -- primarily from China -- through the treacherous Darien jungle on their way to the United States. "It is a route that has been referred to by some of the people who use it as a VIP route due to the ease it provides in moving faster than the route used by other migrants," says prosecutor Emeldo Marquez. Despite the dangers posed by treacherous terrain and violent criminal gangs, more than half a million undocumented migrants crossed the Darien last year.
