Description
For decades, the fertile land around Kyparissia on the shores of the Ionian Sea has been mainly known for its olive trees. But even this part of western Greece, which sees more rain than other parts of the country, is grappling with the effects of drought. A state-led initiative is introducing farmers to tropical fruits that don't require as much water to produce successful yields, such as mangos and avocados. "Climate change brought us to a point where we need to find alternative crops," says farmer Panos Adamopoulos. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
