Description
Talks on the conflict in Sudan will launch this week, even without the Sudanese government, says the US Special Envoy. Speaking in Geneva, Switzerland, Tom Perriello says "we will draw on the partnerships and consultations that got us here," with the Sudanese armed forces (SAF) so far failing to provide a solid "affirmation". Last month, the US invited Sudan's warring sides to ceasefire talks, co-hosted with Saudi Arabia and the Swiss, more than a year after fighting broke out between the regular army (the SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
