Description
A delegation of five Senegalese soldiers arrived in France on the eve of commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Provence landings. Of the 250,000 soldiers of the Free French Army mobilised in 1944 in the region, most came from the French colonies in Africa. "If France has been able to write ‘Liberty, equality, fraternity (Liberté, égalité, fraternité)’ under its flag, it is partly thanks to the Senegalese infantrymen who made sacrifices that were very important for France's freedom," says N'Dongo Dieng, who himself took part in the Indochina and Cameroon wars.
