Description
Since 1994, when the first boat arrived on the coast of the Canary Islands, almost 230,000 people have attempted the crossing to the Spanish archipelago. This migration route is now one of the most popular for migrants trying to reach Europe. On Wednesday, 124 people were escorted by Spanish rescue services to one of the southern ports on the island of Gran Canaria. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
