Description
Images of the swollen Tsubusa river in Japan's Oita prefecture as Typhoon Shanshan hits with full force. Several people have been injured as howling winds smash windows and blow tiles off houses, while torrential rains have sparked floods and landslide warnings.
Shanshan is Japan's most powerful typhoon this year, packing gusts of up to 252 kilometres (157 miles) per hour. The storm made landfall on the main southern island of Kyushu, home to 12.5 million people, around 8am on Thursday (2300 GMT Wednesday). IMAGES
