Description
Former British work and pensions secretary Mel Stride, a staunch ally of ex-prime minister Rishi Sunak, is eliminated from the race to be the next leader of the Conservative party after receiving the fewest number of votes among candidates. The former Secretary of State for Immigration, Robert Jenrick, who represents the party's right wing, topped this week's results with 33 votes. MPs will whittle the candidates down to a final two before party members choose which of them will become the next leader, the result of which is due on November 2. SOUNDBITES
