The annual "Diada" holiday, commemorating the fall of Catalonia's capital Barcelona to Spain in 1714 has started. Tens of thousands gather to parade in the streets of Barcelona, at a time when the pro-independence movement is running out of steam, battered by divisions and alienated from local power. Ramon Corominas, 79, deplores the current dissension: "We don't understand each other", yet "above all, we need unity. Because without unity, we will never do anything", he asserts.
