Description
"Hopefully the winds will die down a bit and things will return to normal. I think we will have to go back to work tomorrow," says a firefighter from drought-stricken Ecuador. "We stopped because it is dangerous to work without sunlight due to the topography of the fire," explains another firefighter at the scene on the outskirts of the coastal city of Guayaquil, where wildfires have broken out near the El Chorrillo substation, which supplies electricity to much of the country's coast.
About 50 firefighters are battling a series of fires that broke out in the early morning hours, with local media reporting that there are now 12 active fires in the country, six of which have been brought under control. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
