While 2024 is described as a “super-cycle” year with approximately three billion people going to the polls, a new report released by the International IDEA thinktank says that nearly half of countries “are exhibiting a very severe decline” in key elements of democracy and “electoral turnout has decreased...across the world". Speaking in an interview with AFP, Dr Kevin Casas-Zamora, International IDEA's Secretary-General, warns that "election denialism...has become a global phenomenon." IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
