Description
Dozens of rocks are lined up on the ground to block a highway in Huarina, on the road to Lake Titicaca, which is shared by Bolivia and Peru, in protest by the Bolivian Aymara people against President Luis Arce and to demand better living conditions. "When we claim or demand something, the government says that we are supporters of Evo Morales, but this is completely false. What we are asking for are our rights as an Aymara nation," says one of the movement's leaders.
Morales, Bolivia's first Indigenous president, was extremely popular until he tried to circumvent the constitution and seek a fourth term in 2019. He wants to run again in August 2025, but the courts have barred him. But with the support of a wing of his party, he is trying to force the courts to back down.
