Not far from the epicenter of the fires raging in northern Portugal, the small town of Veiga, near Agueda, is lit up at night by an orange sky as flames consume a forest and threaten residents' homes. "There are really no resources, so now we're letting everything burn until it's all cleared. And when it's cleared, it's not a forest anymore," laments a retired Veiga resident as he watches the blaze.
